withdrawal symptoms /11:54

The Olympic flame has since been put out, and the closing ceremony concluded.
Most of the event grounds and volunteers have returned to their normal lives.
And me, i gotta miss working with them..
Its been a long while since I worked alongside hierarchy-free conditions, and everyone there felt so warmth and hosting - friends i shall say. Expressing concerns out, no bossing, and having a good time watching the game..
sigh, my impression of the yog had changed too.. Initially was thinking why the hell the govt spend so much on all this, and ppl who volunteer are really sian.. But then, thinking back, its the what-they-say Olympic experience that counts and I experienced that wholesome goodness. Also, the spendings goes to paying our salaries and contractors which comes back in a circle to economy..

Cheers people, and to the SKW group, gotta meet up again soon too.. :)

Time flies also boy!
Its now 28 August 2010.

3 weeks from now and I'll be heading for north again. This time, a whirlwind tour with a combo of climbing and food.. I seriously look forward to it, travelling on a backpack for 2 weeks; switching your bases, washing your own clothes, sleeping on the bus, eating fuss-free hawker food.. woohoo!

Then.. after that its check-in to Tekong resort.. Sigh, the long wait till enlistment has kinda made me lose enthusiasm.. I hope it doesnt reaches the point when I start to dread the feeling.
I'm also getting used to my kind of carefree lifestyle now.. everyday's like a holiday, wonder if I'll get tuned to army life or even that of a working adult? even so, what career path?

YOG and Singapore. /22:23

Today, the final whistle is blown on the 3 on 3 basketball court.
and the YOG gold medal goes to the boys from Serbia and 'girls' from China. *they bloody look like old bod males on the court!

Well, working at the event had shown me alot, experienced, and also making new friends.
Good/Bad (this is written by a pure Singaporean's POV)
Firstly, was able to work and watch at the same time. hehes, i always love these multi-tasking jobs. The angmoh that comes are super big and tall for their age, 15 - 17 on average 1.9m. haha, they probably can reach all the way into the top shelf of the coke machine i was working on with much ease lah!
Culture breeds a difference too, from the conservative to the hype fun lovings "kids".. The Aussie girls are for one, a very fun loving bunch always smiling :)
To be these young stars, u get alot of perks lah, getting chased by teen girls/boys for pictures, press/media coverage, showered by sponsorship gifts and apparels. Thats living the high life boy! and exclusive transport too. basket.
Then, there were also the moments where emotions run high.. a smashed holding room's whiteboard.. and also the time when the Greece boys beat superpower USA and came singing and dancing. Precious moments.. Witnessed the flag raising ceremony too, the scene was a charged one.. the glory and joy standing at the podium is one tearing moment, reminds me of the time when i completed my marathon just that tis time, but next to me is my friend, my team. Naise!

Now comes the ugly part. Back of house
Associated mainly with this image:

Kiasu-ism.

not that i'm complaining that my job (to refill bottled drinks in the fridge which are foc to workforce) is a hard one.
but damn, its the people behavior that turns me off. the rate of drinks being taken out is already that fast, and u get people asking why not cold one ah.. its a chiller not a freezer dude! and also the typical Singaporean to takes as many as their arms can allow them. (i take for my friend) and afterwards drinking just a few sips of it before discarding. They just take things for granted.. Sets me thinking as to what these kids are taught in school.. and in society.
Do they know how to treasure something? do they know how to work hard for something? and if they do, will they hold on to it, or be complacent and let emotions take over?
...
hmm.
but overall i enjoyed the experience. my colleagues, the log staff, catering staff, all friendly and good.
Cheers!

Sungkai Whitewater Kayaking /22:58

This post is dedicated to everyone whom made the trip possible & also to our Malaysian hosts.
Cheers!
it had been a good trip, max-out yet Happy and fulfilled.

I've gained a lot of experience & thrills, not only from the river itself but also from the people & knowing myself. Writing this post serves as a memory to myself and sharing the experiences with others :)
Got to admit the first morning, the first run, I was scared shit.. and the water is damn cold.
Overcoming the first rapid serves as a pat on the back to me.. which pretty much was my first objective. ha-ha.
Couldn't really remember when was the first time i flip, but the only solid memory was the one I tumbled down the fall head in the water, ka-ta-boom ka-ta-bish..

We potage some of the rapids too, cause of the nature debris that had been collated in the pool, but that's okay as there's plenty more to go around. The thrill comes about as if one is deciding my own path of navigation, everything lies in you, the captain of your craft.. The outcome then, is deemed as whether you chose the right path that gets you rushing ahead, or you choosing the more difficult path, getting stuck and wrenching your head for a solution out.

Speaking of which, is usually my case.. haha! May laugh it off now, but I'm really glad on some of the few occasions there's people to help me out.. in fact i actually fear my life in some. rmb there's one, my bow was wretched between two rocks, my stern was under the face of the fall, thank goodness the guide came to help me after awhile, I was quite desperate from moving against nature..
Another nice moment was this magenta colour jungle fruit plucked from this tree growing along the bank of the river.. Taste like longans.. It's a healthy recharge, as we sat on the bank eating them taking in the sights and sound.

Also amazing were the people themselves. They're really accommodating hosts. Food was prepared for us when we reach the ending point and also the lovely Durians, whesh.. probably the freshest I'd tasted, soft and creamy.. The Orang Aslis living by the river as we paddled were amazing too. Their kids come in the numbers and bloody hell they can just jump from rock to rock, dive in the water, swim along with our crafts.. I'm impressed, and they're like 5 years old only?..

All in all, I really enjoy, appreciate the opportunity given.. Gave some of my skin, and took back more of the feelings. Sets me thinking again..

Also, Happy National Day everyone.

why are we so pampered? /13:25

I woke up this morning and was reading yesterday's paper on the table.
Came across this article that reads: Despite deaths, Railway tracks still accessible.

Reading on, I'm angered yet sadden at the media and people's response.
Cant we be more matured to have the bloody common sense to say "this is an active train track, keep off, enter at your own risk."
Why do we need a fence and gates to tell us that. Have we all gotten all comfortable and pampered in our lives that we become ignorant fools when you need a damn watchdog to save your own lives, the most basic of humanity - to Save yourself.
I'm would be really sadden if the day comes when fences go up.
First are the fences blocking access to the road parallel to the airport runway, then the platform doors on MRT stations (ridiculous waste of money), next what? Fences separating ALL pedestrian paths from the roads to prevent jaywalking?
We would really become animals in the zoo already. Seeing things from behind a cage.

Sigh..
And come to think of it. All these things dont happen until some accident happened; the media and people then jump on it like a pack of hungry lions snatching a piece of meat.

We ought to take a leaf from the way Malaysians run things; you slow down things, you communicate better..

friday is getting nearer! /23:45

A friend
is one that you want to throw things at when at the lowest of time,
is one that you share your joys and achievements with, be it good or bad.
and is one that encourages, criticizes, loves, hate, and lastly Respect.

If one cant even hold simplest of respect - your friendship.
The next step down its strangers..
I'm really disappointed certain of such things happen, to mislead your intentions for own personal gains.. sigh..
oh well, life still goes on as per normal..
I cant stop giving; its the circle of life.

and
OMG Friday is getting nearer!!

Having thoughts of an out-of-the-country birthday celebration.
something simple. :)
