Man in the mirror /23:53

think of wad's been said..
so tired of those wad do u call traditions and defaults..
back to basics: "an avid traveller.. " think abt it...

hmm, inspiration music..

"I'm Starting With The Man In
The Mirror
I'm Asking Him To Change
His Ways
And No Message Could Have
Been Any Clearer
If You Wanna Make The World
A Better Place
(If You Wanna Make The
World A Better Place)
Take A Look At Yourself, And
Then Make A Change"

Who's the man in my mirror?

Life is too boring to be predictable, make it happen!

Dilemma /22:17

"the fear for failure is the reason for not trying.."
i've said that myself but yet now i am hesitating.

i wish to be more independent, to be more outgoing.

Kota Kinabalu Diary /22:51

Time to write about the LTC@KK trip we had.

Let’s see.

27 of us and 4 mentors met on early Sunday morning 11th Oct, Changi Airport. We were all excited, running about, sharing photo moments whenever we can. The feeling was nice, taking plane to climb mountain lei!

Boarded Jetstar flight 3K527 for Kota Kinabalu. Ride took approx 1hr55mins; and many of us knocked ourselves out. A fulfilling moment for me was when i saw this other plane fly by in the opposite direction as we were cruising. =D

Landed on time, and shall skip the makan part except that the fried calamari were superb. Then another 2hrs bus to rose cabin near foot of Mt. K.

Arrival @Rose cabin. Feels like Cameron Highlands there, Nice! Could see the mighty Mt Kinabalu in the background and drifting clouds near the summit.

Dinner was rather bland compared to lunch, but nevertheless food means energy which we need!

Woke up early on Monday and caught a glimpse of the rising sun. Thank goodness the heater at the hostel was working la, hahas. Caught the last look of the mountain we were about the climb, then breakfast and bus transfer to the Timpohon gate where our journey begins. Bought a nice looking tong-ka at RM3 (it’s still standing strong in my room). Everyone gathered, and off we go! ;)

It was forest trails at the start but as got to the 3rd or 4th huts the trail became rocks of varying heights. Inched our way up to the 5th Hut for lunch. Along the way saw a few porters passing us. They’re truly amazing people carrying loads like 1 tank of gas, a sack of rice, cartons of drinks on ONE single load; yet they’re going at twice our speed. Pei Fu! Heard they make at least 2 – 3 journeys per day.. woa..

Base Camp at last! Pendant hut’s the name. So good to be out of the wind. And did something unthinkable - BATH! hahahaha, unbelivable as the water was cold to the bone.. woohoo..
Experienced AMS (really bad headache sia), practically everyone did & wento bed.

0130am. Woke up, breakfast. Submit climb today! Very excited - Night trek & sunrise. Nearing the top, there aint trees hence we were all in direct contact with the winds. Following 1 white rope to the submit, the climb is tiring, and looks never ending cus everytime u look up u'll still see the flickering lights from someone's headlamp; the air got thin & thinner..

Low's peak! 4095.2M at last. Rewarding indeed, saw the sun arising from her slumber. ;) heard was 3 degrees there. woa; too cold for pictures and descended.. Haha, climb hard descend easy.. Reached sayang sayang hut, geared up for via ferrata. Wasnt expecting much difficulty from this except to enjoy the scenary..

Back to base camp. had one hell of a morning as waited for everyone to gather back. Was off-schedule by alot for descend. Jacob took the lead and reached down before sunset. "Lunch" at rose cabin and took bus back to KK town, hoping to get chance for KFC dinner which was later denied.

The night was spent at a backpacker's inn called Borneo Backpackers. Somehow or rather i was thrilled at how homely that place felt. Did inspired me a little to want to take up backpacking in the future..
Morning woke up den took a 4hrs bus ride to tenom town for our whitewater rafting. Tried the coffee which was what the town was famous for. Then transfer to train to our launch point. Geared up and off.

More fun and laughs as Gha was the 1st to fell in our raft. Did some other dumb stuff like body rafting, forced capsize. Overall it was thrilling; wonder wad would it be like in a kayak instead..

After that, took a train out and i enjoyed the country breeze and view.. Trains are such majestic things aint? Dinner was OTOT & we enjoyed that KFC at last.. ;)
"It's hard to say goodbye, as all gd things come to an end..."
With that we boarded our flight 3K528 back to Singapore. Hard/mad reality..

Overall, it was a trip i really enjoyed. It was very nice as we began our journey as strangers, but along the way thru motivation and support, we began to look out for one another. Not to forget the climb of Mt KK, Whitewater rafting at pedas river, Via Feratta.. They were all many firsts for me and undoubtingly the best thus far..
Lastly to add, it was the backpacking culture that I experienced in which i also drew the most inspiration from.
Gd trip, Gd company.
Thank You jacob, kwok, helmi, chin yeh, Leaders of tommorrow..

Cheers.

lethargic /11:31

Feeling quite lethargic now.
duno if its due to the damn cough or pre-trip anxiety?
I dunno wad i'm lacking or should buy.. keep getting the feeling that i've left out sth..
Dilemma..

Leaving on Sunday for Mount Kinabalu alr..
Back on Thurs (15 Oct ) 4pm
Flight Jetstar Asia 3K528.

There seems to be a pattern to the weather i've noticed for the past few days..
One day its hot sunny & dry; the next its cold rainy & wet.
hmm, i hope this erratic pattern does not follow suit in East Malaysia..

And also gd weather to juniors heading to Datuk this weekend.. Cheers!

Ubin! /23:59

- Highest Point at Ubin!

Went Cycling @Ubin ytd.
Had lotsa of fun & not to mention pictures taken. The DSLR from Jian Wei was like god-sent..

Visited Chek Jawa, and the surrounding board walks. Den came face to face with a family of wild boar! thats damn cool, we're on the board walk and the boars are abt 10M away.. Nice.
Did a fair share of cycling & 'trek' to find the highest point of ubin at the top of one of the quarries.. The view there was magjestic, nv did i thot sg still got places of such nature..

Fun day out ytd! =D

Today..
Attended LTC workshop in sch by Jacob; before heading to PM for water rafting familirisation..

& Bad news: Heavy rains in Malaysia may prohibit us reaching the summit plus temperatures dipping to 0 - 4 degree celcius.. Woa..
Looks like new a few more extra attire alr.. & pray for gd weather too!

Flash Forward /23:56

If given the chance to glimpse into the looking glass at your future;
how would it look or how do you want it to look?
fit? exchanging kisses by the sunset? drunk by the pier?..

Me: i rather not look, & let things run its course. But to not look ahead = no planning = lost

seemingly the only horizon i see now is NS enlistment, and that I want to carry on doing the things i love. Other than that, everything is covered by fog.
The final year of poly is embarking soon; i hope i have enough pipes to lay to continue the "water' forward and not hit a 'game over' pop up.
*reference to pipe dreams [game]
come on big brain think..

Oh yes, speaking of all these looking glasses. The new tv series "Flash Forward" is superb. left me hanging by the cliff again.
Story's pilot is about the time when the whole world blackouts for 2min17secs and that everyone catches a glimpse of your future. Pretty cool as the whole story enfolds into finding out who or what is behind it..
woots, cant wait for the nx episode. And yes, the amazing race was awesome too.
back to chasing tv..

Last few days was tiring yet fun-filled.
Fri. went to bt timah to trek with juniors & the LTC peeps. Nice weather, and i love my water bag! ;) we witnessed first hand the monkeys snatching food from one of our guys. omg. they're a fierce lot. Its quite sad to see them doing that as we humans had spoilt them badly, damn those asshole who did not read the signs "do not feed the monkeys" in the first place. Went home with a bad headache and a sore back.

Sat. Met lard to playboat in sch awhile den wento work at a carnival part time job.. it was drizzling & still many ppl turned up. Our booths were crowded all the way.
Had to take part in a most no of ppl peeling pomelo later, quite fun at 1st but soon realized that the pomelo skin is acidic or sth as my skin kinda reacted with stinging sensation..

Today. Still comtemplating with the lost of internet.
Caught the surrourgates movie with parents and brother at vivo.. Long time since we went out tgt alr. Quite dry was the movie. den headed to central for dinner and chill. Nice.

Tml's monday.
Amazing race at 6pm.
and fyp? hmmmm...

1st Oct /12:13

1st Oct.. woohoo!
It is raining now, which is a gd thing, clear out all the haze and smoke..

Happy birthday to myself too.
and ya, i felt tremors this morning too, always wondered how it was like to be in an earthquake, my seat swayed slightly, as though i was bopping sideways when on a boat at sea.. i thot i was still feeling the after effects from yesterday's kayaking..
But hey, realised my laptop was moving.. interesting, but not cool to be in when this actually happens though.
Felt sad for the ppl of indo, and also the typhoon wrecked parts of vietnam.. today's papers were splashed with all their stories in the headlines..

Ops, its 1215 alr, better to go prepare else fyp grp wld murder me.. hahas.

pool trng later.
bt timah trek tml.
