Today, the final whistle is blown on the 3 on 3 basketball court.
and the YOG gold medal goes to the boys from Serbia and 'girls' from China. *they bloody look like old bod males on the court!
Well, working at the event had shown me alot, experienced, and also making new friends.
Good/Bad (this is written by a pure Singaporean's POV)
Firstly, was able to work and watch at the same time. hehes, i always love these multi-tasking jobs. The angmoh that comes are super big and tall for their age, 15 - 17 on average 1.9m. haha, they probably can reach all the way into the top shelf of the coke machine i was working on with much ease lah!
Culture breeds a difference too, from the conservative to the hype fun lovings "kids".. The Aussie girls are for one, a very fun loving bunch always smiling :)
To be these young stars, u get alot of perks lah, getting chased by teen girls/boys for pictures, press/media coverage, showered by sponsorship gifts and apparels. Thats living the high life boy! and exclusive transport too. basket.
Then, there were also the moments where emotions run high.. a smashed holding room's whiteboard.. and also the time when the Greece boys beat superpower USA and came singing and dancing. Precious moments.. Witnessed the flag raising ceremony too, the scene was a charged one.. the glory and joy standing at the podium is one tearing moment, reminds me of the time when i completed my marathon just that tis time, but next to me is my friend, my team. Naise!
Now comes the ugly part. Back of house
Associated mainly with this image:
Kiasu-ism.
not that i'm complaining that my job (to refill bottled drinks in the fridge which are foc to workforce) is a hard one.
but damn, its the people behavior that turns me off. the rate of drinks being taken out is already that fast, and u get people asking why not cold one ah.. its a chiller not a freezer dude! and also the typical Singaporean to takes as many as their arms can allow them. (i take for my friend) and afterwards drinking just a few sips of it before discarding. They just take things for granted.. Sets me thinking as to what these kids are taught in school.. and in society.
Do they know how to treasure something? do they know how to work hard for something? and if they do, will they hold on to it, or be complacent and let emotions take over?
...
hmm.
but overall i enjoyed the experience. my colleagues, the log staff, catering staff, all friendly and good.
Cheers!
